 Deena R. Levine and Mara B. Adelman have created Beyond Language: Intercultural Communication for English as a Second Language to augment the language-oriented program by encouraging an awareness of the nuances of culture. The first section of each chapter, which includes a reading with accompanying comprehension question and vocabulary exercises, focuses on areas of culture in the United States to help foreign and immigrant students better understand their experiences in the host society.
