Description
Summary:This book examines the role of Islam and Shariah in the economic development of Malaysia. In contemporary Malaysia, there are two 'policies' adopted by the Government; 'Islamisation' and 'Malaynisation'. The study covers the political economy of law in Malaysia; in particular, exploring the relationship between the two 'policies'. The pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial periods are covered, although the focus is on the Malay-Muslims of Peninsula Malaysia. Bank Islam, Tabung Haji and Amanah Saham Nasional are used as case studies to examine the extent to which they are examples of 'Islamisation' or 'Malaynisation'.
