"In response to comments about the first edition, this revised edition has tried to clarify further the critical role of theory, first in designing case studies and later in generalizing from them. Also, further guidance has been provided regarding the problem of determining the number of case studies to be used in a multiple-case study. Both new discussions are found in Chapter 2. In other respects, the book remains largely unchanged. Case study research has been a major social science craft for many years, and such a craft does not change at a very rapid pace.
