Description
Summary:Building a collection that meets the needs of its users is a very important responsibility. A collection which is inadequate for a given library can prove to be a serious drawback. Building a suit- able collection requires planning, careful use of budgets and wise selections on the part of those making choices. There are many obstacles to the process of achieving an appropriate sci-tech collec- tion, not the least of which is the high cost of scientific and techni- cal literature. This issue covers all aspects of sci-tech collection management. The first paper, by the editor, aims at providing a summary of basic principles and practices involved in the building and weeding of such collections. The second paper, by Beatrice Kovacs, is chiefly concerned with the role of weeding in sci-tech collections, with comparison made to weeding collections outside the sci-tech sector.
