Summary: | The series has been designed to meet the needs of university, pre university, and upper secondary school students who are of an intermediate level of English. It is a highly flexible course that may be used in an ESL, EFL or ESP context, and little or no knowledge of the subject is assumed. The books are clearly laid out with plenty of diagrams and include selected vocabulary input as well as progress check texts so the students' levels can be continually assessed. Emphasis is placed upon scanning and reading for detailed information, understanding is checked with a variety of exercises. Listening tasks to prepare the student for lectures are provided by the cassettes which accompany the books. Other skills practised are note-taking, summarising and comprehension exercises designed to improve the students' grasp of scientific English. The series can be used by both native and non-native teachers of English, and by teachers who do not have a specialised knowledge of the subject. |
