Most of the textbooks on the business law of Singapore are difficult for a non-lawyer to follow, while most legal texts aimed at laymen are unduly concerned with cases and statutes. This book explains the principles behind the rules. Cases are not discussed, except as examples and only where they clarify the application of the legal principles. The aim of the book is to give non-law students and professionals like accountants, bankers, company secretaries and stockbrokers a basic grasp of commercial law. The book is divided into five parts: introduction to the sources of Singapore law and the process of litigation, the law of obligations and agency, commercial transactions, business organisations, and the law of the stock market. Each part is independent, so the reader who is interested only in company law can refer to the relevant chapters without having to master what has gone before. This allows the book to be used in a variety of courses and as a quick reference source for laymen.
