Description
Summary:This book deals with the concept, structure and function of the traditional Malay house. It is an introduction to the architecture of the two basic types of traditional Malay house--the long-roofed and pyramidal-roofed house. A remarkable feature of these two types of house was that they were built without a single nail. They were built in harmony with their natural environment. Although the traditional timber Malay house is being superseded by modern brick architecture, there is evidence of a return to and an appreciation of traditional architecture in contemporary buildings. The detailed illustrations, attractive photographs and simple text will serve as a good introduction to traditional Malay architecture. This book will contribute towards preserving this part of the national cultural heritage.
