Summary: | The whimsical village of Molo is based on my own village of Melor, situated right on the Pasir Puteh - Kota Bharu trunk road, as I often describe in the anthology. Melor, with a population of 20 000 people now has evolved from a village town' of 3 rows of wooden shop houses to one boasting of brick buildings. Such changes are superficial, peoples' sentiments have not changed very much. I wrote initially to amuse my family; humans delight in seeing themselves in print. With gentle prodding and more encouragement I was moved to publish the stories. The period of the stories spanned almost thirty years which is actually my own span of remembrance. The stories go as far back as the 50's and comes up to the present day. I wrote most of the characters from memory and what memory lapses I had, were amply filled by my mother. I have stubbomly clung to the usage of Kelantan terms in my stories, for authenticity of expressions and in doing so necessitated the inclusion of a glossary of terms. The glossary has been arranged in alphabetical onder, and placed at the end of the book. |
