My earlier book entitled Malaysian Law on Banking and Finance was published by the Institute of Bankers, Malaysia in April 1994. It was aimed at readers who comprised mainly bankers, banking law students and lawyers in Malaysia. This book goes into greater depth and detail on banking law in Malaysia and Singapore, the emphasis being on cases in the two jurisdictions. Where relevant, statutory provisions on banking law have also been reproduced in this book. This book, therefore, serves as a reference and case-book and is not intended to be a comprehensive textbook. The year 1994 marked the beginning of my full-time involvement in writing, conducting training programmes and providing consultancy services on the legal aspects of banking and management for bankers and financiers throughout Malaysia. This book reflects some of the cases and materials used in the course of those activities, in particular, cases and materials which were found to be relevant to bankers as well as to lawyers who serve on the panels of banks and financial institutions. My husband, Detta Samen, is my endless source of inspiration, support and love. My two lovely children, Ivan Jeron Detta and Elizabeth Mena Detta, have enabled me to write this book by being so independent and understanding in spite of their young age. This book is dedicated to them. Last but not least, I thank God for giving me happiness and so many blessings in the form of my family and the many joys of my life; one such joy being the writing of this book
