 Vision 2020 that was triggered by Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in 1991 has faced our nation with some big challenges which he says in order to make some quite radical social changes. The Malays especially face the challenge of adapting themselves from a position as a group that is trying to overcome its economic backwardness to a group that will defines a modern industrial nation-state. What will be the position of the Malay language later as a result of the social transformation? The author of this book is of the opinion that although the position of the Malay language as the official language used in schools and offices is already guaranteed by law. but the role and position as a sophisticated language of modern knowledge, which will define the image of modern Malaysian national life in the coming century is not yet guaranteed. He made that conclusion based on the analysis of social science which he used to highlight the 'cultural crisis faced by the Malays, which is said to be the main obstacle to the stability of the language.
