 The aim of this guide is to identify and describe those elements of management theory and practice where systematic training - combined with practical experience is likely to be of particular value to library and information workers. Each element is discussed in outline and different kinds of training need, technique and experience - to match the background and responsibilities of the various personnel customarily found in library and information units - are enumerated. Reference is made wherever possible to examples of good practice, and relevant sample documentation is given in an appendix. The guideline is intended to be a practical introduction to the subject for senior managers wishing to introduce or extend management training and developmeny schemes within their organizations and for individuals who would like to develop their own personal management techniques and styles.
