The International Union of Foresty Research Organisations (IUFRO) celebrated its centennial in Eberswalde and Berlin during 1992, and it seemed appropriate for IUFRO subject group S1. Tropical Silviculture to use the opportunity to review the history, status and prospects of research and silviculture in the tropical forests. These proceedings are a record of the invited and contributed papers.
