520 | # | # | |a Dance is considered to be the first art form practiced by humans because it does not require any equipment, except the human body. Early dance forms and styles determined by its function and environment. Early humans used dance as a tool to communicate with spirits ancestors believed by them what is referred to today as natural phenomena, such as thunderstorms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, droughts, and the like. Dance becomes an integral and functional part of human society. It forms the basis of the rationalization of phenomena naturally unpredictable or incomprehensible. This is how dance began in the old Malay world, from simple ritual movements to more complex and delicate folk dances and palace dances. The development of Malay dance must be seen from a historical perspective in the context of Southeast Asia, especially the old Malay world whose inhabitants are descendants of Proto Malays and Deutero Malays who have migrated from mainland Asia to the Pacific islands. |
