I believe that the publication of a guidebook like this is in line with our spirit and ambition to complete the Malay language to become a modern standard language and a language of knowledge that is in line with the national education system. Activities like this will continue as a continuation of the duties and responsibilities of the Language and Library Council in helping to publish quality books on linguistics and the Malay language. This General Guideline for the Spelling of the Malay Language is the formulation of the Indonesian-Malaysian Language Council on the spelling of the Malay language which was agreed upon by the Government of Malaysia and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia following the declaration of its use by Y.B. The Minister of Education of Malaysia and the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia simultaneously from 30 August 1975. It is hoped that with the publication of this guidebook, the development of the standard Malay language will be more rapid and in line with the development of the Indonesian language. Hopefully this guidebook can help people use Malay better and more easily.
