Most of all, environmental science is about life and how to sustain it on Planet dev Earth. The ecological and environmental crises we face tion are such a part of the daily news that they need not the be enumerated here. Put briefly, humankind is engaged in numerous courses of action that are resulting in nonsustainable environmental impacts. Simple extrapolation shows that they can lead only to breakdown of the basic systems, such as the protective ozone shield, that support life on earth. A sustainable future depends very directly on our developing in the years ahead ways of producing food and manufactured products, acquiring energy, disposing of wastes, and so on that are sustainable. Does this sound like the talk of extremists? |
