Description
Summary:For the past few years, the interest of scholars to study the Bajau community has been there, but still not so widespread. Research needs to be done again so that we can get a complete picture of the community. Therefore, this book aims to make a meaningful contribution in order to fill the gaps and increase our knowledge of the Bajau community. This book provides an ethnographic presentation of some aspects of the culture of a group of Bajau people found in Omadal Island, in the district of Semporna, Sabah. The focus of this book is on the kinship system, an important stage in the life-cycle of a person, especially the stages of pregnancy-birth, marriage and death, in addition to the religious system and beliefs of the Bajau group. This book is actually part of my Master of Arts thesis entitled 'Orang Bajau Pulau Omadal, Sabah (A Study of the Cultural System)' submitted to the University of Malaya in 1977. However, modifications have been made to make it suitable for public reading.
