Description
Summary:Timber is an excellent material which can successfully be employed for a variety of structures. This guidebook looks at the fundamental simplicity of timber and provides examples and recommendations for the design modification factors. Frequent reference is made to BS 5268: Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Timber, but the book does not refer exclusively to this code. From the derivation of basic structures and the design of compression members through jointing methods to the design of trussed rafters, this book provides a thorough reference work for practical structural designers and students of civil engineering, architects and building. The Timber Research and Development Association is an independent research and development association jointly financed by firms and individuals, the timber trade, professions and industry and grant-aided by the department of the Environment. A wide range of advisory, consultancy and design services is provided on all aspects of its use. Educational and training courses are organised and the Association is the source of a wide range of authoritative publications on matters relating to the use of timber.
