Thales (636 546 S.M.) was the first person in the historical record to initiate the study of animals in general. Ana ximander (611-547 S.M.) who was one of Thales 'students continued her teacher's study. He was the first proponent of the theory of evolution. He believed that life originated from land and fish were early animals derived from water and his descendants dominated the land. After his death a disciple of Phytogoras named Xenophanes (576 490 S.M.) began the study of fossils and believed in the existence of the Great Flood in ancient times. The classification of animals was initiated by Democritus (470-380 S.M.). He classified animals into sanguiferus (red -blooded/ Vertebrata) and non -sanguiferus (non -red -blooded/ Inverte brata).
