Description
Summary:Refurbishment, particularly of industrial and commercial buildings, is an increasingly common and important activity in the construction industry. Yet it is an area in which the building designer may have had little or no traning or experince. This is the first book to tackle the problems specific to refurbishment. The author begins with a discussion of the reasons for refurbishment, and the criteria for converting rather than rebuilding. He then examines the ingredients of refurbishment, element by element, against a backround of recent case studies. In this way, the designer is given and insight into the best approach to the problem at large, as well as practical advice - with lists of proprietary products - on solving particular difficulties. This will be an invaluable manual for practising architects, builders, surveyors and structural engineers.
