In a very real sense the book has been written by many authors because in preparing the text the writer cast himself in the role of a collector of scattered information. The sources of the information are diverse: lecture notes, standard textbooks, trade journals, manufacturers' instruction books, research journals, and discussion with practising textile technologists. The book should not be read in isolation but in conjunction with such publications as the British Standards Handbook No. 11, 'Methods of Test for Textiles'. In this book the edition referred to is that published in 1963, and the page numbers quoted are of that edition. The American counterpart is the "ASTM Standards on Textile Materials' published by the American Society for Testing Materials. Other textbooks referred to in the various sections will give the reader more detailed information about certain aspects of the subject than is possible in a few paragraphs
