Description
Summary:The text of this monograph was prepared by W. J. Carter arising from a project to reprint two technical papers given at Technical Section meetings in the thirties, as they dealt with the care and maintenance of felts and machine wires. With advance of the technology in both these fields, it was realised at a fairly early date that the reprints (valuable though they were) would not be adequate enough for current conditions. Mr Carter therefore sought up-to-date material from his colleagues in the allied industries and expressed his warm thanks for the support he received. Because of the rapid advance in technology, the text had to undergo two major revisions before it could be considered suitable for publication. As the script and illustrations were ready for final editing and preparation for printing, Mr Carter died suddenly in 1972 and the final technical checking in conjunction with the general editor was undertaken at short notice by Mr B. W. Attwood, to whom very grateful thanks are due. Many friends in the paper industry and in the allied industries have helped over the years of preparing the monograph with major contributions to the text and with illustrations, also with advice and encouragement. Both ack nowledgement and appreciation are cordially expressed to all those concerned too numerous to name.
