Description
Summary:Reflecting expansion of the Sawmill Clinics to include topics other than the strictly operational, MODERN SAWMILL. TECH- NIQUES: Volume 5 offers valuable information on the growing opportunity for the United States and Canada to market framing lumber and structural plywood in Japan. In the summer of 1974, Japan's building code was changed to permit houses to be built by the North American framing (or 2x4) system. And many of the secondary barriers to actual shipment, particularly those related to differences in grading systems, are being overcome. This record of the 1975 Portland, Oregon, Sawmill Clinic the third to be held in the Northwest relates the ideas of industry leaders with long and continuing experience with the Japanese market as to how this potential can be tapped. They do not all agree on some key factors-particularly on the time when North American mills will become key suppliers of sawn lumber in Japan. But they do all agree that that time will come. And a representative of the Japanese building industry reinforces that belief in his statements.
