At university,this skillis attached moreimportance as it is also used to accumulate content information from lectures.The present case study focuses onacademic lecture comprehension. It attemptsto investigate whetherEFL first-year students at Tlemcen University (Algeria) havethe necessary strategies which help them comprehend their lectures. For thispurpose, a questionnaire is administered to uncover the strategies of the participants, in additionto a test to measure their comprehension of lectures. The results show that the subjects do not employ the necessary strategies, and their performance on the test is poor.Therefore, it is suggested, at the end of the article, that university students should be instructed into lecture comprehension strategies so as to assist them to effectively understandtheir academic lectures.
