Summary: | This book consists principally of 27 speeches on the bond mar- ket and bond investment that were delivered by the author be- tween 1961 and 1977. They were selected from a much larger number on the basis of relevance to present and future times. For the most part, these texts are exactly as delivered but in a few cases redundancies and discussions of local, transitory issues have been omitted. Nothing of substance has been added. This series of speeches traces the evolution of bond investment problems from the quiet, stable bond markets of the early 1960s down through the catastrophic crises in the late 1960s and in the 1970s. As a prelude and supplement to the discussions of investment strategy, other speeches discuss market forces over the same period, such as inflation, political influences on interest rates, and supply and demand forces in the credit markets. By presenting a number of the author's speeches, unedited in the light of subsequent events, the reader is given a live picture of the bond market trends and problems at various times as seen by one market participant. The speeches are presented here in five parts according to the main topic of each. These parts are: A Historical Overview, Inflation and the Bond Market, Politics and the Bond Market, Bond Investment Strategy, and The Stock Market; Total Money Management. |
