The name of the 1989 conference is still a moot point since it has been apparent from discussions at the present conference that there might be some evidence in favor of the term "informetrics" rather than (or beside) the terms "bibliometrics" and "scientometrics". It is praiseworthy that such questions could also occur during conferences. In promoting a new name, it is a classical technique to use the new name together with the old one. It is for this reason that the editors, in agreement with the publisher decided to use the name "informetrics" in the title of these proceedings, together with the conference. name "bibliometrics" in the title of the Finally we hope that the conference at issue has been of some help in speeding up the process in which bibliometrics is becoming a scientific discipline where researchers interact through all formal and informal channels of communications, including meetings, symposia and international conferences.
