Description
Summary:Consultants and advisers of various kinds have played an increasingly important role in recent years in the evaluation. planning and development of the many different institutions and operations associated with information transfer. Not only has the growth of this activity been a world-wide phenomenon but it has been marked by a rapid increase in the establishment of professional information consultancy firms and by a considerable expansion of consultancy activity among information specialists in developing countries. However, the literature of information consultancy is sparse, scattered and often difficult to obtain. This collection therefore brings together twelve recent contributions on the subject, one of which is published here for the first time. The aim is to set library and information consultancy in its international context, give an idea of how recent attitudes to the subject have changed, and reflect the opinions and experiences of both suppliers and consumers of international information consultancy services. By collecting together some of the more valuable writings on information consultancy, this volume will help to provide a wider perspective on this important branch of information work for and clients as well as the personnel of agencies and organizations who deal with consultants and clients.
