These additions will help the student to better understand cell structure, stem structure, leaf structure, physiology of growth and development, flower structure and pollination, algae, lichens, mycorrhizae, Psilophyta, and the use of taxonomic keys. The rationale for including new art has been to present material that has been difficult for students to section or for typical teaching de partments to purchase, prepare, or photograph. In most cases, this art complements but does not dupli cate art in the accompanying text, Botany, An Intro duction to Plant Biology, 5th edition. Additional references to figures in the text have been made throughout the lab manual, and in all other ways the manual has been revised to conform to the new text edition. We thank Walter Russell for his help in pre paring this manual. An appendix has been added, containing laboratory preparation details previously found in the Instructor's Manual Teachers should still refer to the Manual for text chapter outlines, sample questions, and sources of audio-visual aids.
