Its lucid and readable approach has made it an attractive choice for all levels of law students and indeed anyone interested in the law. The text has been fully updated to incorporate the considerable body of new statute and case law that has appeared since the last edition in 1977. The important legislative changes made by the Administration of Justice Acts 1977 and 1982, Supreme Court Act 1981, Employment Acts 1980 and 1982, British Nationality Act 1981, Criminal Justice Act 1982, Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977 and Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 are but a few of those discussed. Reference is also made to the consolidating statutes, the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Matrimonial Homes Act 1983. The section on the tort of negligence has been completely rewritten to take into account several important recent decisions including Anns v. Merton L.B.C. (1977) and Junior Books Ltd. v. Veitchi Co. Ltd. (1982). In the chapter on the law of contract cases such as Bunge Corporation v. Tradax S.A., Photo Production Ltd. v. Securicor Transport Ltd., Ailsa Craig v. Malvern Fishing, and Woodar Investment v. Wimpey Construction, are all included. As in previous editions the important principles of English law are set out clearly in language all can understand. For those seeking a comprehensive but readable introduction there can be no better guide than this. "...a well written and concisely digested account of the core components of many law courses-legal system, legal personality, crime, tort, contract and property." The Solicitors' Journal, reviewing the previous edition.
